I set a new record with 148 posts in 2010. It's amazing how many times you can write the same diatribe about cars without getting bored! Here are my favorites from this year...
- An always timely call to end the moralistic judgment of weather in general and snow in particular featuring the frost-fighting folksy voice of Gary Eichten.
- An illustrated think about visions of the urban in Edward Hopper's wonderfully lonely paintings.
- A well-supported hypothesis connecting NIMBYism to property values using a gated community in Woodbury as an example.
- Castigations of: Joe Soucheray's asinine attack on bicycle boulevards, the overly-prolific reactionary Joel Kotkin., and the University of Minnesota's Escher-esque bicycle planning.
- Three archival unearthings: an architectural critique of Nicollet Mall from 1978, Victor Gruen's description of Southdale Mall from 1964, and Jean Baudrillard's postmodern ode to the Twin Cities from 1989.
- A documentary review of the NiceRide system involving my mom, and a review of Transit for Liveable Communities annual picnic, and a review of Park(ing) Day.
- Three interviews with interesting people: the head of Saint Paul's Public Art non-profit, an awesome sound and space artist, and a suburban streetcorner Santa Claus.
- A three-part series on the new Target Field.
- And, in an election year, political prognosticating about: the gas tax , Target's corporate campaign contributions, Tom Emmer's anti-pedestrian anti-poetry politics, and the almost end of Minnesotan liberalism.
Every single time I like get up at morning to see the sunset !
