The U is its own city inside of a much larger (actual) city. The Saint Paul campus (that people so often forget) is gorgeous. Looking south from the SPSC you can see the lights of Saint Paul and the river valley. Very beautiful.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17629790.post-83846912901361430542008-03-01T10:32:00.000-06:002008-03-01T10:32:00.000-06:00The WAB is also annoying for how it terminates the...The WAB is also annoying for how it terminates the bike lane with stairs for riders wanting to exit the north side of the bridge.

But I have a perverse affection for the covered part, where in my crazed marathoning days before the Dome opened in the winter, I headed for training runs on frigid nights when I needed an ice-free, wind-free route.Charlie Quimbyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06211021430914020025noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17629790.post-41815614889015406322008-02-28T20:06:00.000-06:002008-02-28T20:06:00.000-06:00Hi Bill! It's a very delicious salsa indeed!!

PS I really like your photo collages-- keep it up.

PSS It's true what you say about the U of M's lackluster sidewalk scene. The UW Madison is an interesting contrast-- same type of school, but very fun street fun. I'm sure it has something to do with the fact that the Union Terrace (student hangout on a lake) is connected to State Street (pedestrian friendly business district) which is connected to the state capitol (political power).Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17629790.post-23911985210714550102008-02-28T10:38:00.000-06:002008-02-28T10:38:00.000-06:00Great comment on the Light Rail and the U of M cam...Great comment on the Light Rail and the U of M campus in general. It is a cesspool of nothingness, seperated from the river. I often wonder, who decided to even build the campus there? It's not idyllic. I often miss the UW-Madison campus and wish the community space available at that campus could somehow be duplicated at the U, as even Coffman is cold and isolated as opposed to the warmth and community space that the UW's Memorial Union has intrinsically.

http://www.union.wisc.edu/phototour/03.htmlAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17629790.post-17813751606030674642008-02-28T10:17:00.000-06:002008-02-28T10:17:00.000-06:00Oops!But, why are there so many bohemians from Boh...Oops!

But, why are there so many bohemians from Bohemia?Bill Lindekehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11373780012930618768noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17629790.post-69243743339321394972008-02-28T03:30:00.000-06:002008-02-28T03:30:00.000-06:00''flat land that once housed a large fraction of M...''flat land that once housed a large fraction of Minneapolis's bohemian culture''

No. It housed a large portion of Minneapolis's Bohemians, as in immigrant people from Bohemia - that is to say Czechs (plenty of Slovaks and Poles too).
